Playin' 4 the City is a French house ensemble, based in Paris, featuring Olivier Portal on keys, beats, & samples, Karl the Voice on vocals, and Fred Melosax on saxes and flutes. Olivier and Karl first worked together in the jazz-soul outfit Station Groove and in 1995 is when they had met Fred and decided to form their own band, and Playin 4 the City was born. During that period is when Olivier had begun his own house record label, Straight-Up. For the past 7 years, they have been bringing an "OriginalDeepandSoulfulKindofJazzyHouseMusic" to nightclubs across the globe. In Paris, Playin 4 the City has performed on numerous occasions with DJ Deep at the Rex Club and at Queen. They turned out the massive crowd that had come to celebrate New Years Eve 2000 at Mad Bar in Chicago where they held a residency and brought their soulful sound to the Winter Music Conference 2000 in Miami for a Music 101 show. Playin 4 the City has performed both in France and the United States and have released projects on Slip'n'Slide (UK) and Kool Groove (US). 2001 was the year that they released 2 projects on the Music 101 (Chicago) entitled "Ask Me" parts I & II, both tracks feature vocals by Carla Prather and remixes by Derrick L. Carter. Future projects by the band are due to be released on Music 101 in 2002.
