Brian Ffar

Brian Ffar

***|| Standard Bio Intro ||***

Music has been an integral part of my life for as far back as I can remember. As a kid, it was impossible to go to bed without the sounds of my little silver radio turned on by the head of my bed. I began to take piano lessons at a young age and eventually joined the school band. It wasnt until a then unknown CD, entitled Homework, by a then unknown group named Daft Punk was released that I would realize my future.

***|| Typical "How I got into it shpeal...and the cheasy wanting to be a PART of it talk ||***

When Daft Punks Homework first came out,I was totally floored! I knew right then and there that this was more than just liking the music. I felt as though I wanted to be a part of it more than anything!

***|| Now you're just DYING to know what happened!?! ||***

With age came changes in taste and lifestyle - I went away to college and earned my degree in Architectural Engineering at Penn State University but continued listening to what I thought at the time was the most current electronic music available. The day after I returned home from graduation, I went out and bought my first set of turntables and a mixer with my graduation gifts (thanks everyone!)...thus DJ Ffar was born (*tear*).

***|| Your basic, so WTF am I doing NOW?!? ||***

I've been trying to present my "style" of music to the Chicago (as well as global, really) community for several years now, and continue to express myself through a variety of musical styles.

***|| The boring history...do you REALLY give a crap!?! ||***

*Insert deep movie voice here*
In the beginning, Ffars tastes revolved around emotional music -Euphoric trance as well as intense progressive house fueled his desire to spin records. However, as a resident of Chicago, it was the citys relentless influence that would finally introduce him to his musical soul mate...DEEP HOUSE. MUAHAHAHAHAH!

***|| So, let's get serious for a second here... ||***

Over the last couple of years, I think my sound and tastes have ventured out toward the techier side of things. While tech house (if that's what the kids are calling it these days) recently made its way over to the States, I guess I've been trying to educate people with fresh, innovative records that will make their heads spin and I think the response has been extremely enthusiastic.

***|| Here's where I list the names of people I've "played" with, which probably means opened for, and probably not even in the same room, so that I look like a big, badass DJ ||***

I've had the opportunity and honor to play with such international names as
John Digweed (same club - not even on the same floor), Danny Howells (opening opening DJ, but doesn't it sound pretty cool?), Mazi (well, I really have played with Mazi a few times - good guy), Jay Tripwire (I'm not actually sure I played with Jay...Oh yes, I did! It was at the Gourmet RR&R BBQ here in Chicago), Little Mike (good lord, they BEGGED me to, what could I say, I felt bad for the guy ;), Ty Tek (see previous...poor Ty), Jake Fairley (this one is true...was a cool show with Lusine), Lusine (this one is true...was a cool show with Jake Fairley), Jimmy Van M (opened, and this time it WAS in the same room!), Juan Atkins (good old days at Zentra, this one's true), Kevin Yost (is this getting old yet? Do you think I'm a badass DJ yet? No? Ok, we'll keep going), H:Foundation, Jay J, Chris Lum, Natural Rhythm, and Brett Johnson
(opened for them, and by "opened" I mean got their drycleaning, made them coffee, carried their record bags, etc.) among too many other artists to list (you like how I did that? You're now wondering just WHO ELSE could he have played for? This guy MUST be a badass DJ). I like to think that I continue to evolve as a DJ and producer. I try and be both creative and energetic behind the decks (you'll see, I jump around on both feet like a spaz when I get excited about a tune). Throughout my "career" (ooooh, how professional!), I've been able to meld my love for deep house, tech house, techno, and electro into a presentation that has caught the eyes and ears of many contemporary DJs worldwide (this statement is total bull. I really have no clue whether I've caught anyone's ear or not, but if you didn't know, you would believe what you read, right?)

***|| Here's where I impress you with where I've played, and some other 'ish that I think is cool ||***

Outside of Chicago, I've played in nearby cities like Milwaukee (but I LOVE St. Louis!), and have played Mexico a few times (great parties, and great weather). I've also established myself as a well respected (totally bullshit again...just trying to blow some smoke up your bum) producer among my contemporaries, with releases out on Gourmet Recordings (December 2004), Beat Code (October 2004), Tic Tac Toe, and Listen to Reason (not out yet...but it will be, soon).

You can also check out my monthly online residency called "The Red Line Sessions" for Proton Radio every 4th Tuesday of each month from 12-2pm EST at www.protonradio.com. (I'm not saying this because it's my show, but it really does kick ass) (I actually AM saying that because it's my show, but it still kicks ass...I think)
